The Living Legacy Foundation and Team Maryland, a group of donors and recipients, met with Baltimore City lawmakers Friday to discuss the importance of organ, eye and tissue donations and transplants.
Nationally, 20 people die every day waiting for a transplant. By registering as a donor, you have the potential to save eight lives and enhance more than 75 lives through tissue donation.
Danette Ragin is thankful that she had not one, but two kidney transplants. One of them was given to her by her daughter.
"It's beyond words," Ragin said. "I'm just so elated that I'm still living and I get to see all my children, grandchildren, see them grow and prosper. I just thank God every day for the gift of life for my extended warrantee."
"It means a lot to me to be able to donate an organ to my mom," said Ragin's daughter Danisha Angel Whitker. "I love her and I can't imagine life without her."
The Living Legacy Foundation and Team Maryland signed a flag the will go to the Transplant Games this summer in Salt Lake City.
